Damn rain. Damn cold. I had the best intentions to leave early this morning. I even set an alarm. When I awoke it was cold. As we all know, I don’t function well, or move quickly, when the mornings are cold.

If the terrain is forgiving, I plan to push forward to a nice shelter and attempt to out  run the storm.  If the terrain is rocky, I’ll throw in the towel and hole up.

Thankfully the terrain was favorable. I covered the 13.4 miles to the shelter in five hours. Still no rain…what to do?  When in doubt, blaze on. I chose to push to the next shelter. From there it will be an easy day into town.

Conditions worsened. The Trail went back to rocks and roots. The clouds rolled in. The last two hours of hiking were in light showers. But I made it!  A 23.2 mile day in nine hours. Plus a spot in the shelter.

Bring on the rain. I have a roof over my head!

It’s been a hard three days. Over 60 miles!

But my rain plan worked out!
