I didn’t start hiking today until around 8:30. These relaxed, take your time kind of mornings are enjoyable. No pressure. No stress. No hurry. My kind of morning. Something tells me that theses kind of days might be coming to an end.

We enjoyed lunch atop Ravens Rocks. It is the best view we’ve had since leaving SNP. Unfortunately, just after lunch, our stretch of dry weather ended. The rain moved in and stayed for hours.

In Waynesboro, Mrs. Growler brought me a trekking umbrella. I rigged it to quickly attach to my pack so as to be hands free. Once the rain started, I deployed my umbrella, put on my rain kilt, and continued hiking. This combination of gear is the best rain protection ever!

The original plan was to stay at Lesser Shelter. By the time we arrived, it was crowded. Neither OC or I wanted to pitch tents in the rain. Only 8.1 miles to town…

An easy choice. Hike on!
