The morning was spent hiking through patures and crop fields. The Trail is crossing a large valley, between ridge lines. The flat ground is welcome change of pace. It is good to get out of the dense forest and into the open.
By the afternoon, it was back to the hills and the trees. We hiked up and over three ridge lines before hiking along the top of the fourth. Eventually reaching the Susquehanna River. From there it was a steep descent into DunCannon, PA.
We did the required stop at the Doyle Hotel. The place is legend on the AT. The food was good and the beer cold. Based on the ambiance, we chose to not stay the night.
Instead? Off to a local church. They allow hikers to sleep in their basement, or camp in the backyard. The Pastor even cooked the hikers dinner.
