Day 108 / Stroudsburg, PA / 1294.9 / Zero
We had a lazy day. Besides the zoo at Walmart, it was a quiet and relaxing day. But I guess…lazy is good. My feet appreciate the rest. They took a pounding in PA.
Day 107 / Kittatinny Visitor Center / 1294.9 / 7.4
I thought I saw a bear this morning. Something large and black made a crashing sound in the woods. It then turned and ran. I only caught a glimpse of it. So I can’t be positive. Maybe a bear, maybe something else. The hike was pretty flat and smooth approaching Delaware Water Gap. That was […]
Day 106 / Field Campsite / 1287.5 / 14.0
A shorter hike than normal today. Meeting Dave tomorrow and it makes no sense to push forward. The best plan… stop early and enjoy the afternoon. The campsite has a view. Plus the wind is blowing, which is keeping the bugs away. The grass is comfortable. No rain in sight. It’s shaping up to be […]
Day 105 / Leroy A. Smith / 1273.5 / 16.7
Today was the big rock scramble out of the Lehigh Valley. It was a steep climb! No twisted ankles or knees. At the top, you get a great view of Palmerton, PA. On the wildlife front, I saw a rattlesnake today. An eastern timber rattler. He was on the edge of the trail, sunning himself. […]
Day 104 / George W. Outerbridge / 1256.8 / 16.8
Damn rocks!
Day 103 / Allentown Hiking Club / 1240.0 / 21.9
Another great visit with family. And I don’t have to wait long for the next visit. I found out my brother, from my other mother, is coming next weekend. Dave is driving up from KY to NJ. I’m thankful that loved ones will drive hours to spend a day with me. For news from the […]
Day 102 / PA61 – Hamburg / 1218.1 / Zero
Yay! Family! Besides Mrs. Growler visiting, it was just your average zero day. The morning spent completing chores and resupply. The afternoon spent “brew blazing”. It’s amazing to think of the places I’ve been, the things I’ve done, while on this adventure. The memories are priceless.
Day 101 / PA61 – Hamburg / 1218.1 / 9.3
One cold and windy day last winter, Riley and I were here. We stopped on our way from SC. On that day, I stood under this overpass and wondered if I had what it took to complete the AT. Today I know I have the strength and will to succeed. One step at a time.
Day 100 / Eagles Nest / 1208.8 / 19.2
Today was a wet one. It rained for most of the day. My umbrella worked great until the woods became too thick. It’s too hot for rain gear, so I opted for the wet out. Just get soaked and keep hiking. The rain stopped long enough to allow me to pitch my tent. Shortly thereafter […]
